A beautiful morning, could not ask for a better day for a ride!
Our team gathered at 5.45. One (Hao) got a bit lost on the way, or something.... Israel forgot to bring his entry bib number.... but all that got sorted and we were all set to go by a bit after 6.
We kept pretty close until Loftus, when the leading group of 12 or so didn't stop as planned, 2 or 3 more decided to keep up and pulled in then out, and the rest of us took a break, then set off at a quick pace, but without any real goal to catch them.
People were getting flats and taking spills here and there.... a few broken bones, grazes seemed the worst... until Chris and I were heading down the hill from Waterfall, and we heard what seemed like a rifle shot behind us on a fast bend... someone was in trouble, a tyre exploding - have not heard the outcome yet but Deano and Mike were close behind and it seemed like it was not too bad, lucky for the rider.
The Royal NP was at its finest and before long we were onto the coast, a spectacular day, views forever. Rode onwards together and caught up with Evalin at Austinmer, and rode along with her the rest of the way as Dean took off and Chris and Mike fell behind a bit in the morning heat. Soon we were at the finish and wondering where the rest were..... the Beer Tent, where else? A few beers to finish off the ride, just the thing.

Eliot and Paul have a few more, look forward to seeing them too..... my camera decided to set itself on macro while riding, some a lot of the shots when we were riding together are duds.... rats.

So we've cracked the $14k mark this year - awesome work team, and sponsors... Israel has made a late rush up the leaderboard, wow.... been asleep over there in WA, we can only assume.
We've committed to riding as a team.... hopefully we can keep it together neat and tidy all the way... but I'm sure there will be a few who want to break away from the NDY Peloton towards the latter parts of the ride.

Last minute fundraising has been very successful, so time to aim for a bigger target for the team than last year!
Meanwhile, the team is training hard...... bring on Sunday! How many of us will ride BACK to Sydney after the 90km soutbound trip, I'm wondering?

It seems like only a few weeks ago we were all thinking "plenty of time time to train up...". Well, where did those weeks go?
With a few of us joining the Zeal of Zebras tomorrow morning, and others planning a southern highlands cycle on the weekend, things are getting serious. Choosing to ride the long way to work to rack up some k's is not so bad, even when peak hour military road is part of the route... let's face it, riding is at least as quick as driving in favourable conditions along there... in peak hour, it's positively speed-demon stuff.
Eliot has dusted off his fancy gazillion dollar race machine..... Simon has upgraded to cleats..... Aaron is hosting Evalin after she flies up from Melbourne the day before.... shiny new drink bottles for the team from one of our suppliers (Thanks Dave!). Two BBQs in the office so far have raised over $400 from staff and another next week to round it out should get us in the mood for a cracking day outside.

NDY pedal power - supporting people with MS
A team of NDY riders are using pedal power to raise money for the invaluable work of MS Australia in the 2011 Gong Ride on Sunday 6 November 2011. Rising early most mornings to train, the NDY team are gearing up to conquer the 90km course from Sydney to Wollongong for the second year running. Team members will fly from Perth, the USA and Melbourne to join the race - all in the name of a very good cause.
MS is the most common disease of the central nervous system and affects more than 20,000 Australians. MS Australia aims to minimise the impact of multiple sclerosis on all individuals affected by the disease, as well as their families, carers and the community, by offering a wide range of services, equipment and support. MS Australia's goal is to assist everyone affected by MS to live life to their fullest potential and secure the care and support they need, until we ultimately find a cure.
Did you know?
* The average age of diagnosis of MS is just 30 years.
* MS affects three times as many women as men.
How can you help?
Setting the benchmark high, the NDY team last year raised $12,000 and this year aim to raise at least $10,000. The team would greatly appreciate all contributions, small and large.
